Issue No. 1271Qualifications of the Imam of Congregational Prayer

Following a Person Who Offers Prayer with Tayammum or Jabīrah Wuḍū

Issue No. 1271- If the imam leads his prayer with tayammum, or jabīrah wuḍū, one can follow him. However, if because of some valid excuse, he has no alternative but to perform the prayer in najis clothes, one should not follow him, as a recommended precaution. However, one who suffers from a disease, owing to which he cannot control his urine or faeces and also mustaḥāḍah women and generally speaking, anyone who offers defective prayer on account of an excuse cannot, as an obligatory precaution, lead the prayer for others.

Issue No. 1304Method of Offering Āyāt Prayer

Doubt about Number of Rak‘ats

Issue No. 1304- If a person doubts as to how many rak‘ats he has offered, and is unable to arrive at any decision, his prayer is void. However, if he doubts as to how many rukū‘ he has performed, he should presume the lesser number of rukū‘s, and if he already has gone to sajdah, he should ignore his doubt.

Cases in Which Āyāt Prayer Becomes Obligatory

Issue No. 1287- Āyāt (Signs) Prayer becomes obligatory on account of the following four occasions:1. Solar Eclipse, even partially. 2. Lunar Eclipse, even partially.3. Earthquake, even though it does not create fear among people with respect to these three events.4. Thunder and lightning, red and black winds and other similar celestial phenomena, provided that it frightens most of the people. Similarly for the terrestrial events which create fear in most of the people āyāt Prayer should be offered, as an obligatory precaution.

Issue No. 1288Rulings of Āyāt Prayer

If the Causes of Āyāt Prayer Occur Several Times

Issue No. 1288- If the event, which makes āyāt Prayer obligatory, occurs several times, one should offer āyāt Prayer for each one of them. For example, if an earthquake takes place a number of times, or a solar eclipse and an earthquake occur at the same time, one should offer separate āyāt Prayers for each of them. However, if these occurrences take place while a person is offering āyāt Prayer, one āyāt prayer will suffice.

If Āyāt Prayer Becomes Obligatory at the Time of a Daily Prayer

Issue No. 1296- If the āyāt Prayer becomes obligatory on a person at the time of a daily prayer, in case he has sufficient time for both the prayers, either of them offered first will be correct. In case however, the time for one of them is short, he should offer that prayer first, and if the time for both of them is short, he should first offer the daily prayer.

Issue No. 1297Rulings of Āyāt Prayer

Realising During the Daily Prayer That the Time for Āyāt Prayer Is Short

Issue No. 1297- If one realises during the daily prayer that the time for both āyāt Prayer and daily prayer is short, he should complete the daily prayer first, and then offer the āyāt prayer. In case the time of the daily prayer is not short, he should break it and first offer the āyāt Prayer and then offer the daily prayer. However if a person, while offering āyāt Prayer, realises that the time for daily prayer is short, he should leave the āyāt Prayer and start offering the daily prayer, then after completing the daily prayer and before performing any act which invalidates the prayer, he should continue offering āyāt Prayer from the same point where he abandoned it.

The Duty of a Woman in Her Menses or Nifās

Issue No. 1298- If a solar or lunar eclipse takes place when a woman is in her monthly menses or nifās (lochia), and if she has not yet become ṭāhir from the blood of menses or nifās until the eclipse ends, it will not be obligatory for her to offer āyāt Prayer nor is there any qaḍā upon her.
