Issue No. 978Sajdah (Prostration)

Makrūh Acts in Sajdah

Issue No.978- It is makrūh to recite the holy Qur’an in sajdah. It is also makrūh to blow off the dust from the place of sajdah, and if, by doing so, a two-letter word is pronounced intentionally, the prayer is void as an obligatory precaution.

Dhikr of Obligatory Sajdahs of the Holy Qur’an

Issue No.984- While performing the obligatory sajdah of the holy Qur’an it is not necessary to utter any dhikr though it is better to recite Dhikrs; preferably the following:  "لا اِلهَ إلاَّ اللّهُ حَقّاً حَقّاً لا اِلهَ إلاَّ اللّهُ اِيماناً وَ تَصْديقاً لا اِلهَ إلاَّ اللّهُ عُبُودِيَّةً وَرِقّاً سَجَدْتُ لَکَ يا رَبِّ تَعَبُّداً وَرِقّاً لا مُسْتَنْکِفاً وَ لا مُسْتَکْبِراً بَلْ اَنَا عَبْدٌ ذَليلٌ ضَعيفٌ خائِفٌ مُسْتَجيرٌ"

Mustaḥab Acts regarding Tashahhud

Issue No.989- It is recommended that in the state of tashahhud, one should sit on his left thigh, placing the instep of the right foot on the sole of the left foot, and utter these phrases: “اَلْحَمْدُ لِلهِ” or “بِسْمِ اللّهِ وَ بِاللّهِ وَ الحَمْدُ لِلّهِ وَ خَيْرُ الاْسْماءِ لِلّهِ” before reciting tashahhud. It is also recommended to place one’s hands on the thighs, with joined fingers, and to look at the lap, and to say “وَ تَقَبَّلْ شَفْاعَتَهُ وَ ارْفَعْ دَرَجَتَهُ” after finishing the first tashahhud [1]. (O Allah please accept the intercession of the holy prophet (ṣ) and elevate his status)

Issue No. 991Salām

If One forgets to Recite the Salām

Issue No.991- If a person forgets to recite the salām of prayer, and remembers before the form of the prayer has been disturbed and he has not done any acts that invalidate the prayer, either intentionally or inadvertently [such as turning away from the qiblah], he should recite salām and his prayer is correct. However, if he remembers after the form of prayer has been disturbed, and he has not done any acts that invalidate the prayer, either intentionally or inadvertently, it is not necessary to say the salām and his prayer is correct, and if he has done so before the form of the prayer has been disturbed, he should, as an obligatory precaution, offer the prayer again.

Issue No.992- A person who is offering prayers should observe the sequence of the acts of prayers as was explained in the previous issues, and if he intentionally changes the sequence of the prayers, for example, if he performs the two Sajdahs before Ruku', or if he recites Tashahhud before performing the two Sajdah, his prayers would become void. And if he changes the sequence by mistake, he should, if he has not yet entered the succeeding Rukn (basic element), return and do it so that the sequence is observed. If a person forgets a Rukn of the prayers and performs the succeeding Rukn, for example before performing Ruku' he performs the two Sajdahs, his prayers would become void.

Issue No. 998Qunūt

Dhikr of Qunūt

Issue No.998- It is not necessary to recite a particular dhikr or supplication in qunūt. It is better that while reciting qunūt, a person should keep his hands in front of his face, join the palms of his hands, and keep them facing the sky, join all his fingers, and recite the dhikr of Allah or recite supplications. Whatever a person recites in qunūt is sufficient, even if he says, “سُبْحانَ اللهِ” only once. However, it would be better to recite supplications such as the following:لا اِلهَ إلاَّ اللّهُ الْحَليمُ الْکَريمُ لا اِلهَ إلاَّ اللّهُ الْعَلِىُّ الْعَظيمُ سُبْحانَ اللّهِ رَبِّ السَّمَواتِ السَّبْعِ وَ رَبِّ الاْرَضينَ السَّبْعِ وَ ما فيهِنَّ وَ ما بَيْنَهُنَّ وَ رَبِّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظيمِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّهِ رَبِّ الْعالَمينَ and ask Allah to fulfil his requests in this world and the Hereafter.

Issue No. 999Qunūt

Reciting Qunūt a Bit Louder

Issue No.999- It is recommended that one should recite qunūt slightly louder. However, if a person is offering prayer in congregation he should not recite qunūt in a way that the imam leading the prayer is able to hear him.

Issue No. 1000Qunūt

Abandoning Qunūt

Issue No.1000- If a person does not recite qunūt intentionally; there is no qaḍā for it. And if he forgets it, and remembers before reaching rukū‘, it is recommended that he stand up and recite it. Moreover, if he remembers while performing rukū‘, it is recommended that he perform its qaḍā after rukū‘. In addition, if he remembers while performing sajdah, it is recommended that he perform its qaḍā after salām.

The Tasbīḥ of Lady Fatima

Issue No.1001- It is recommended that after offering the prayer, one should engage himself in reciting Dhikrs, supplications and the holy Qur'an. This is called Ta'qīb. It is better that before he leaves his place, and before his wuḍū becomes void, he should recite Ta'qīb facing the qiblah. Many Ta'qībs have been narrated in the books of supplications from the infallible Imams (as). The Tasbīḥ of Lady Fatima (peace be upon her) is one of the most important Tasbīḥs and accomplishes extreme divine rewards. This Tasbīḥ should be recited in the following order:“Allahu Akbar” 34 times, “Alḥamdulillāh” 33 times, “Subḥanallāh” 33 times
