Issue No.267- The hands are usually washed up to the wrist before wuḍū but it is not sufficient for wuḍū. So after washing the face, one must wash the entire arm and if he washes it down only to the wrist, the wuḍū is void.
Issue No.277- The wiping must be on the skin of the feet. Therefore, wiping on socks or shoes is void unless when one is exercising taqīyyah (dissimulation). However, if one is unable to take off his shoes or socks because of severe cold, or fear of robbers, beasts, etc., it is sufficient to wipe on them, and in the case of the top of the shoes being najis, one can put something ṭāhir on them and wipe on them.
Issue No.282- There is no harm in performing wuḍū of some parts by immersion, and of others in the usual way. However, it is better that the wuḍū of the left arm is done in the usual way so that there is no problem in regard to wiping the head and the feet.
Issue No.283- It is befitting that a person performing wuḍū should recite the following supplication when his eyes see water:بِسْمِ اللّهِ وَ بِاللّهِ وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلّهِ الَّذِى جَعَلَ الْماءَ طَهُوراً وَ لَمْ يَجْعَلْهُ نَجِسَاً (I begin my wuḍū in the Name of Allah. All praise is due to Allah, Who made water purifying, and not najis).While washing the hands before performing wuḍū, one should say:اللّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنِى مِنَ التَّوّابِينَ وَاجْعَلْنِى مِنَ الْمُتَطَهِّرينَ(O Lord! Make me of those who repent and purify themselves).While swirling water around the mouth one should say:اَللّهُمَّ لَقِّنِىْ حُجَّتِى يَوْمَ اَلْقَاکَ وَ اَطْلِقْ لِسانِىْ بِذِکْرِکَ(O Lord! Dictate to me the principles of faith on the Day I meet You and make my tongue fluent with Your remembrance).While washing the nose one should say: اَللّهُمَّ لا تُحَرِّمْ عَلَىَّ رِيحَ الْجَنَّةَ وَاجْعَلْنِى مِمَّنْ يَشُمُّ رِيحَها وَ رُوحَها وَ طِيبَهَا(O Lord! Do not deprive me of the fragrance of Paradise, and make me of those who smell its fragrance and perfume).While washing the face, one should say:اَللّهُمَّ بَيِّضْ وَجْهِى يَوْمَ تَسْوَدُّ فِيهِ الْوُجوُهُ وَ لا تُسَوِّدْ وَجْهِى يَوْمَ تَبْيَضُّ فِيهِ الْوُجُوهُ(O Lord! Make my face bright on the Day when the faces will turn dark. Do not darken my face on the Day when the faces are bright).While washing the right elbow, one should say:اَللّهُمَّ اَعْطِنى کِتابِى بِيَمينِى وَ الْخُلْدَ فِى الْجِنانِ بِيَسارِى وَ حاسِبْنى حِسابَاً يَسِيراً(O Lord! Give my book of deeds in my right hand, and a permanent stay in Paradise on my left, and be lenient in my Judgment).While washing the left elbow, one should say:اَللّهُمَّ لا تُعْطِنِى کِتابِى بِشِمالِى وَ لا مَنْ وَراء ظَهْرِى وَ لا تَجْعَلْهَا مَغْلُولَةً اِلَى عُنُقِى وَ اَعُوذُ بِکَ مِنْ مُقَطِّعَاتِ النّيْران(O Lord! Do not give my book of deeds in my left hand, nor from behind my back, nor chain it to my neck. I seek refuge with You from the Hell fire).While performing the wiping of the head, one should say:اَللّهُمَّ غَشِّنِى بِرَحْمَتِکَ وَ بَرَکاتِکَ وَ عَفْوِکَ(O Lord ! Bestow Your Mercy, Blessings and forgiveness on me).While performing the wiping of the feet, one should say:اَللّهُمَّ ثَبِّتْنِى عَلَى الصِّراطِ يَوْمَ تَزِلُّ فِيهِ الاَْقْدامُ وَ اجْعَلْ سَعْيِى فِى مَا يُرضِيکَ عَنِّى يَا ذَا الْجَلالِ وَالاِْکْرامِ(O Lord! Keep me firm on the Bridge (to Paradise) on the Day when the feet will slip, and help me in my efforts to do things which will please You, O’ Glorious and Mighty!).
Issue No.287- Performing wuḍū with the water whose owner had allowed its use before and one does not know whether he has changed his mind or not, is valid.
Issue No.288- Performing wuḍū with the water of a religious school that one does not know whether has been endowed only to its students or all people, is not permissible as an obligatory precaution, unless one sees religious people making wuḍū with its water signifying its endowment for public.
Issue No.289- If a person who does not want to perform prayer in a mosque or hussayniyah/imambargah and is not aware whether its water is endowed to the public, or specifically to those who perform prayer there, he cannot make wuḍū using that water. Similarly, performing wuḍū with the water of inns and guesthouses for the people who are not residing there is not valid, unless one can gather from the acts of religious people that the water in such places has been endowed for public use.
Issue No.290- If a person is not a student of a religious school, but he is a guest of the students, there is no harm in his performing wuḍū with the water of that school provided that having such guests is not against the conditions of the endowment (waqf). The same rule applies to the guests of the residents of guesthouses or inns.
Issue No.292- If a person forgets that some water is usurped, and performs wuḍū with it, his wuḍū is valid unless he himself is the usurper of the water. In this case, the wuḍū is void as an obligatory precaution.
Issue No.293- If a person thought that the water was his, and after performing wuḍū he found out that the water belonged to someone else, his wuḍū will be correct and he should pay the price of the water to its owner.
Issue No.294- If one performs wuḍū in a pool which, for instance, a usurped brick or stone is used in, if his wuḍū is counted as utilization of that usurped brick or stone, it is not allowed as an obligatory precaution to make wuḍū there. The same ruling applies when the tap or some parts of a pipe are usurped.
Issue No.295- It is permissible to perform wuḍū from a pool or a canal which is built in the precincts of the shrine of the holy Imams (as) or their descendants that used to be a graveyard, as long as one does not know that the land has been endowed as a graveyard.
