Things Not Regarded as Utensils

Issue No.249- There is no problem in what is not called a utensil, like a cup handle, the wind guard of the hookah, the sheath of a sword, etc., to be made of gold or silver. However, the obligatory precaution is to avoid using a jar of perfume, kohl bottle, etc., made of gold or silver.

Things That Are Haram for a Junub

Issue No.370- The following five things are haram for one who is junub:1- To touch the script of the holy Qur'an or the name of Almighty Allah and names of the prophets and Imams (as), as an obligatory precaution, as mentioned in the 'Wuḍū' section.2- Entering al-Masjid al-Haram or al-Masjid al-Nabawi even though it may be only passing from one gate and going out of another.3- To halt in all other mosques. However, there is no harm in entering from one gate and exiting from another, or going there to bring something out. The same ruling applies to shrines of the holy Imams (as) as an obligatory precaution.4- Entering a mosque to place something in it.5- To recite the verses of sajdah from the holy Qur'an, but reciting verses other than those verses of the same sūrah is permissible.

Things That Are Makrūh for a Junub

Issue No.372- The following eight things are makrūh for a person who is in the state of janābah: 1&2-To eat and drink, but if he performs wuḍū, it is not makrūh.3- To recite more than seven verses of the holy Qur'an, even from the sūrahs that contain no obligatory sajdah.4- To come into contact with, through any part of the body, the cover or margins of the holy Qur'an, or the spaces between its lines, and carrying the holy Qur'an.5- To sleep without performing wuḍū.6- To dye one’s hair with henna, etc.7- To put oil or any kind of cream on one’s body.8- Having sexual intercourse after iḥtilām (i.e., seminal discharge in sleep).

Things That Terminate the Bail

Issue No.1989- The following cases will terminate the bail agreement:1) When the debt of the creditor is paid off.2) When the creditor himself forgives the debt.3) When the debtor dies.4) When the guarantor hands over the debtor or the accused person to the creditor or the plaintiff.5) When the creditor absolves the bailsman from his obligation.6) When the bailsman dies.7) When the creditor hands over his debt by transfer (ḥawālah) or any other way to someone else.

Things Which Are Makrūh for a Fasting Person

Issue No. 1398- Certain things are makrūh for a person who is fasting, some of them are mentioned below:1- Using eye drops. 2- Applying kohl if its taste or smell reaches the throat. 3- Performing an act which causes weakness, like drawing blood from the body or showering. 4- Using snuff or the like if one is not aware that it might reach the throatand if it is known that it will reach the throat it is not permissible.5- Smelling fragrant herbs.6- Sitting in water for women, based on precaution. (Meaning it is better not to do so)7- Using suppository, based on precaution. (Meaning it is better not to do so) 8- Wetting the clothes which one is wearing.9- Pulling out a tooth or every act which leads to weakness and bleeding in the mouth.10- Cleaning the teeth with a fresh wood.11- Kissing the wife without the intention of semen being discharged and every act which arouses lust. However if he does anything with the intention of discharging semen, his fast becomes void.

Things Which Are Makrūh in Prayer

Issue No. 1040 - Any act that disturbs the attention and humility of a person in prayer is makrūh. This includes looking at one's right or left side (though if it is rendered redirecting from the qiblah, the prayer is void as an obligatory precaution). It is also makrūh to play with one’s beard and hands, join one's fingers together, spit, and look at the writings on a ring. It is also makrūh to become silent while reciting sūrah al-fātiḥa or the other sūrah, or dhikr and so as to listen to someone’s conversation. It is also makrūh to perform prayer when a person is feeling drowsy, when he restrains his urge for urinating or defecation, and when he has some tight clothes on.

Things Which Become Ṭāhir by Ground

Issue No.204- The part of the foot or shoe surrounding the sole which becomes najis due to walking on najis ground will also become ṭāhir when it reaches the ground. However, the hand or the knee of the one who walks on his hands and knees and also an artificial leg, the bottom of a stick, horseshoe, wheels of a car, etc., will not become ṭāhir through touching the ground as an obligatory precaution.

Things Which Invalidate Wuḍū

Issue No.344- Wuḍū becomes void on account of the following eight things:1- Discharge of urine. 2- Discharge of faeces. 3- Discharge of gas through the rear. 4- A sleep that overcomes the mind and on account of which eyes do not see and the ears do not hear. However, if the eyes do not see but the ears hear, wuḍū does not become void. 5- Things due to which a person loses his sensibility, like intoxication, unconsciousness or insanity (as an obligatory precaution). 6- Entering the state of istiḥāḍah for women (undue menses) which will be explained later. 7- Every state which requires ghusl, like janābah. 8- Touching the dead body of a human being.

Issue No. 1586Zakat

Things which Paying Their Zakat is Obligatory

Issue No. 1586- It is obligatory to pay zakāt on nine things: wheat, barley, dates, grapes (raisins), gold, silver, sheep, cows and camels, and if a person is the owner of these nine things, he should pay a certain quantity in order to be spent in certain areas in accordance with the conditions which will be mentioned later. However, it is recommended that zakāt also be paid from the capital of business and trade every year. Similarly, it is recommended to pay zakāt on grains other than wheat, barley, dates and raisins.
