The Duty of a Drunk Person after Becoming Conscious

Issue No. 1428- A person must offer qaḍā for the fasts which lapsed owing to his having been intoxicated, even if the intoxicant was consumed by him by mistake or for the purpose of medical treatment. In fact, if he had made the intention of fasting, and then finished the fast in the state of intoxication, the obligatory precaution is that he should perform its qaḍā.

Qadha for Fasts left out due to Travelling or Illness

Issue No. 1429- A person must offer qaḍā for the fasts unperformed, due to travelling, illness, etc.; however, if he does not know the exact number of the unperformed fasts, it will suffice to perform qaḍā for the numbers he is sure he has not performed, and it will not be obligatory to offer qaḍā fast anymore, though it would be better, on the basis of recommended precaution.

Issue No. 1431Rules Regarding Qadha Fast

Breaking a Qadha Fast before Noon

Issue No. 1431- A person who performs a qaḍā for the fast of the month of Ramadan can terminate his fast before ẓuhr provided that the time for qaḍā fast is not short, but it is not permissible to terminate the fast after ẓuhr. However, if he knows that he has some qaḍā fasts due from him but does not know their amount, then he should perform the number of qaḍā fasts that he is certain about, and he is not obliged more.

Issue No. 1442Rulings Regarding Fasting of a Traveler

Ruling of Traveling at a Day that Fasting of Non-Ramadan is Obligatory

Issue No. 1442- If it is obligatory on a person to observe a particular fast other than the fasts of Ramadhan, like, if he has made a vow to keep fast on the 15th of the month of Sha’ban, he should not, as an obligatory precaution, travel on that day. Even if he is already on a journey, he should make an intention to stay at a place for ten days, and should observe fast on that day.

Issue No. 1443Rulings Regarding Fasting of a Traveler

Ruling of Observing Fast in Travel

Issue No. 1443- If a person vows to fast but does not specify which day, he cannot observe fast while travelling. Similarly, the vow is invalid even if he vows that he would fast while travelling, or he vows to fast on a particular day whether he is travelling on that day or not.

Issue No. 1444- A traveller can observe recommended fasts in Medina for three days with the intention of the fulfilment of his need or task (though he may not be intending to stay there for ten days). However, the obligatory precaution is that those three days be Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
