Issue No. 361Rules Regarding Janābah

Signs of Semen

Issue 361-When one cannot ascertain whether the fluid discharged from his body is semen or other wetness, it will be treated as semen if it comes out with force and lustful enjoyment. If these two signs or either of them is not present, the discharged fluid will not be treated as semen. However, In the case of women and ill people, it is not necessary for the fluid to come out with force, but if it comes out at the climax of sexual lust (orgasm), it will be treated as semen.

Issue No.363- It is recommended for one to urinate after seminal discharge so that the remaining particles may come out. In case, therefore, he does not urinate and after ghusl a liquid which is not known to be semen or something else comes out, it will be deemed as semen and he must perform ghusl again.

Janābah Due to Sexual Intercourse

Issue No.364- If a person has sexual intercourse with a woman and the male organ enters up to the point of circumcision or more, both of them enter the state of janābah, regardless of whether they are mature or not and whether ejaculation takes place or not. This is the case with vaginal intercourse, as to anal intercourse, the obligatory precaution is to perform both ghusl and wuḍū.

Copulation with Animals

Issue No.366- If (God forbid) a person penetrates an animal and semen comes out it is sufficient to perform ghusl and if he does not ejaculate, the obligatory precaution is that he should do ghusl and also perform wuḍū for prayer and similar acts. However, if he had been with wuḍū before this act, ghusl alone will be sufficient.

When One Notices Semen on His Clothes

Issue No.369- If a person sees semen on his clothes and knows that it is his own, he should perform ghusl and repeat all those prayers he is certain he performed in janābah. However, it is not necessary to repeat prayers about which he has doubt.

Things That Are Makrūh for a Junub

Issue No.372- The following eight things are makrūh for a person who is in the state of janābah: 1&2-To eat and drink, but if he performs wuḍū, it is not makrūh.3- To recite more than seven verses of the holy Qur'an, even from the sūrahs that contain no obligatory sajdah.4- To come into contact with, through any part of the body, the cover or margins of the holy Qur'an, or the spaces between its lines, and carrying the holy Qur'an.5- To sleep without performing wuḍū.6- To dye one’s hair with henna, etc.7- To put oil or any kind of cream on one’s body.8- Having sexual intercourse after iḥtilām (i.e., seminal discharge in sleep).

Issue No. 374Rules regarding Ghusl of Janābah

Intention for Ghusl of Janābah

Issue No.374- It is not necessary while performing ghusl, to make the intention of an obligatory ghusl nor a recommended one. It is sufficient if one performs the ghusl with the intention of qurbah (proximity to Allah (swt)) and complying with Allah’s order.
