Issue No. 908Qarā’ah (Recitation)

Reciting the Qarā’ah Whisperingly Where It Must Be Recited Loudly

Issue No.908- If a person intentionally offers the prayer loudly, which should be offered in a whispering manner, and vice versa, his prayer is void. In case, however, he does so owing to forgetfulness or not knowing the rule his prayer is correct, unless he has come short in learning his obligation; therefore, as an obligatory precaution, one should offer the prayer again.

Mispronouncing a Word or a Letter of Prayer

Issue No.914- If a person does not know a certain word of al-fātiḥa or the sūrah, or other dhikrs in the prayer, or does not correctly pronounce Arabic linguistic signs like "fatha" or "kasra", or mispronounces one letter instead of another like “Z” for “Ḍ” in a way that it would be counted wrong according to the Arabic language, his prayer is void.

One Who Realizes That He Used to Recite Incorrectly

Issue No.915- If a person believes that a dhikr or a certain word is pronounced correctly and performed his prayers in that way for a period of time, but comes to know later that he was [pronouncing it] wrong, it is not necessary for him to offer the previous prayers again, although the recommended precaution is to offer them again at their time or perform their qaḍā if the time has passed.

The Duty of One Who Has Recited Tasbīḥāt Instead of al-Fātiḥa and Sūrah Mistakenly

Issue No.920- If a person recites tasbīḥāt arbaʿah in the first two rak‘ats, thinking that they are the last two rak‘ats, and if he realises this mistake before rukū‘, he should recite al-fātiḥa and sūrah. But if he realises this during or after the rukū‘, his prayer is valid, though as a recommended precaution, he should offer sajdah al-sahw (sajdah for oversight).

Doubt in a Verse or a Dhikr

Issue No.924- If a person doubts whether he has pronounced a verse or a word correctly or not, he should repeat it and pronounce it correctly. However, if it becomes an obsession, he should ignore it, and if he does not do so, he should, as an obligatory precaution, offer the prayer again.

Issue No. 987Tashahhud

If One Forgets to Perform Tashahhud

Issue No.987- If a person forgets to perform tashahhud, and rises and remembers before rukū‘, he should sit down and recite it, and then stand up again and recite the tasbīḥāt arbaʿah again. But if he remembers this in rukū‘ or thereafter, the prayer is correct and it is not necessary for him to return. However, as a recommended precaution, after prayer he should perform the qaḍā of tashahhud and perform sajdah al-sahw for the forgotten tashahhud.

Qunūts of the Āyāt Prayer

Issue No.997- There are five qunūts in the āyāt prayer and in Eid [al-Adha and al-Fitr] prayers, five qunūts should be performed in the first rak‘at and four qunūts in the second rak‘at.
