Issue No. 627If One Fears to Use Water

One Who Knows That Using Water Is Harmful

Issue No.627- If someone performs tayammum because he is sure water will be harmful for him, but realises before prayer that it is not harmful, his tayammum is void, and if he has offered prayer with it, he should offer the prayer again, as an obligatory precaution. However, if he was sure that water was not harmful for him and performed wuḍū or ghusl, and then found out that water was harmful, his wuḍū is valid.

There is Water just to the extent of Purification

Issue No.630-If the body or clothes of a person are najis and he possesses only enough water to perform wuḍū or ghusl, he should make his body or clothes ṭāhir and offer his prayer after performing tayammum. However, if he does not possess anything on which tayammum is valid, he should use the water for ghusl or wuḍū and perform his prayer with a najis body or clothes.

Issue No.634- If a person doubts whether or not any time is left for performing prayer with wuḍū or ghusl, he should perform wuḍū or ghusl, but if he knows there is a little time left, but fears if he performs wuḍū or ghusl, he will not have time for prayer, he should perform tayammum.

Issue No. 636When There Is Insufficient Time

Omitting the Mustaḥab Acts of Prayer

Issue No.636- If a person has enough time to only perform wuḍū or ghusl and offer prayer without its recommended acts, like iqāmah and qunūt, he should do so. Rather, if he does not have time even to recite the sūrah (second sūrah after sūrah al-fātiḥa in prayer) he must avoid reciting it, and offer the prayer with wuḍū.

Issue No.639- If the things which were mentioned in the previous issue are not found, he should do tayammum on dust which settles on the clothes, etc., and if it is not found either, he should do tayammum on mud. And if none of these things is available he should, on the basis of obligatory precaution, perform prayer without tayammum, and later on should perform the prayer as qaḍā; such a person is called “Fāqid al-Ṭahūrayn”, i.e., one who lacks both water and earth or suchlike on which tayammum is allowed.
