Issue No. 619If It Is Not Possible to Obtain Enough Water for Wuḍū and Ghusl

One Who Is Certain That He Will not Find Water and Does not Look for Water

Issue No.619- If a person is sure that he cannot get water and does not, therefore, go in search of water and offers his prayer with tayammum, but realises after prayer that if he had made an effort he would have attained water, his prayer is void. Similarly, if after searching and not finding water, he made tayammum and offered his prayer then realized later that water was available at the place where he had searched, he should, as an obligatory precaution, make wuḍū and repeat the prayer and if the time of the prayer has elapsed, he should perform the qaḍā of the prayer.

Issue No. 311Tenth Condition: The Acts Should Be Performed by the Individual Himself (Mubāshirah)

One Who Is Incapable of Performing Wuḍū Himself

Issue No.311- If a person cannot perform wuḍū himself, he should have someone to assist him. And if that person demands payment he should pay him if he can afford it. However, he should make the intention of wuḍū himself, and should wipe using his own hands, and if this is not possible at all, someone else should take his hand and wipe it over the place of wiping, and if this is not possible either, the assistant should take some moisture from his hands and wipe his head and feet with the wetness. However, in this case, he must perform tayammum as well, as an obligatory precaution.

One Who Is Informed about the Onset of the Prayer Time While Praying

Issue No.684- If a person based on one of the above-mentioned methods for discerning the prayer time begins offering the prayer, yet realises during the performance of the prayer that the time has not yet set in, his prayer is void. Also if he realises after the prayer that he has offered the entire prayer before time, he should offer the prayer again. However, if he realises, during or after the prayer, that the time had entered, his prayer will be in order.

One Who Is Martyred Out of the Battlefield

Issue No.604- The abovementioned rule applies to those who have been killed in the battlefield, i.e., they have died before the Muslims reach them. However, if the Muslims reach them while they are still alive or they are moved out of the battlefield and taken to a hospital or elsewhere and then they die, although they have the reward of the martyrs, the abovementioned ruling will not apply.

Issue No. 959Sajdah (Prostration)

One Who Is not Able to Place the Forehead on the Ground

Issue No.959- If a person cannot place his forehead on the ground, he should bend as much as possible, and place the turbah or anything on which sajdah is permissible on higher place, so that his forehead can reach it, and place the palms and the knees and the toes on the ground as usual. If he cannot bend at all, he should make an indication with his head, and if that is not possible, he makes an indication with his eyes meaning he should close his eyes with the intention of performing sajdah and should open them with the intention of raising his head from sajdah. In any case, the obligatory precaution is that he should raise the turbah and place it on his forehead. If he is not able to do any of the above-mentioned options, he should, as an obligatory precaution, make an intention for sajdah in his mind.

Issue No. 954Sajdah (Prostration)

One Who Is not Able to Place the Palms on the Ground

Issue No.954- If a person is not able to place the palms on the ground, he should place the back of his hands on the ground, and if this is not possible either, he should place the wrists, and if this cannot be done also, then as an obligatory precaution, he can place any part of his hands up to the elbow on the ground, and in case this is not possible either, he can place his arms on the ground.

Issue No. 1201Qaḍā Prayer

One Who Knows He Has Not Offered a Four Rak‘at Prayer But Does Not Know Which One Is It

Issue No. 1201- If a person knows that he has not offered a four rak‘at prayer, but does not know whether it is ẓuhr, ‘aṣr, or ‘ishā’, it will be sufficient to offer a four-rak‘at prayer with the intention of offering “the lapsed prayer which has not been offered”. He has the option to offer sūrah al-fātiḥa and the other sūrah loudly or in a whispering manner.

Issue No. 1060Doubt After the Time of Prayer

One Who Knows That He Has Offered Only Four Rak‘ats, But Does not Know If It Has Been Ẓuhr or ‘Aṣr

Issue No. 1060 - If after the time of ẓuhr and ‘aṣr prayers has passed, a person knows that he has offered only four rak‘ats, but does not know whether it has been with the intention of ẓuhr or ‘aṣr, he should, offer four rak‘ats of qaḍā prayer with the intention of whatever is obligatory due upon him. However, if after the time of maghrib and ‘ishā’ prayers has elapsed and a person knows that he has offered one prayer, but does not know whether it was of three or four rak‘ats, he should offer the qaḍā of both maghrib and ‘ishā’ prayers.

Issue No. 627If One Fears to Use Water

One Who Knows That Using Water Is Harmful

Issue No.627- If someone performs tayammum because he is sure water will be harmful for him, but realises before prayer that it is not harmful, his tayammum is void, and if he has offered prayer with it, he should offer the prayer again, as an obligatory precaution. However, if he was sure that water was not harmful for him and performed wuḍū or ghusl, and then found out that water was harmful, his wuḍū is valid.

Issue No. 1189Miscellaneous Rules regarding the Prayer of the Traveller

One Who Left His Hometown Before Performing Prayer

Issue No. 1189- If a person is a traveller at the outset of prayer time and does not perform prayer and later he arrives in his hometown or a place he wishes to reside at for ten days, he should offer complete prayer. On the contrary, if a person who is not a traveller does not offer prayer at the beginning of prayer time, and goes on a journey, he should offer qaṣr prayer during the journey.
